New Baby Phat Clothes
|
Baby Phat clothes was started in 1998 by Kimora Lee, formerly
known as Kimora Simmons. A subsidiary of the Phat Fashions brand, it was a short time before
the women’s hip-hop clothing brand took over the targeted market. Kimora Lee’s clothing
line not only became a staple in urban culture but has since become a household brand
for the family of Divas and Princesses.
Baby Phat’s name has been a debate over time. Some consider the name to be a
reflection of the 90s hip-hop slang term “Phat,” which means Pretty Hot and Tempting.
Others debate the name is an alternate play on the keywords “baby fat,” which girls and
guys consider to be cute on the average female. The lady that stays healthy and looks
good but isn’t completely an exercise freak.
Since its creation, Baby Phat clothes have generated hundreds of millions. No other
Phat Fashion brand has held such an excellent reputation in fashion and bred the
idealisms of the beautiful, confident, fashion fabulous woman.
Extensions of the Baby clothes Phat brand have launched regularly in the past
decade. Baby Phat shoes, Baby Phat perfume and fragrances, the
Kimora Lee Simmons Collection (KLS),
Kimora’s Fabulosity book, Baby Phat home décor, and more have spread virally. In
fact, around 2004 Baby Phat shoes was said to sell in numbers competitive of Nike.
Today, Baby Phat clothes brand is still directed by Kimora Lee Simmons but was sold
along with other Phat Fashion brands to Liz Claiborne. The change in ownerships
helped give funding to expand the brand and shift all Russell Simmons’s brand control
over to Kimora Lee completely.
